The third and final event in our workshop series Services to Support FAIR Data takes place in Porto (Portugal) on 16-18 September, during the 2nd Open Science Fair Conference, OSFair 2019, Five separate workshops, co-organised by FAIRsFAIR, OpenAIRE, FIT4RRI and EOSC Secretariat, will unite a variety of user perspectives around aspects of Open Science, scholarly communication in national settings, and FAIR implementation.

In the larger context of Open Science, the workshop will present and discuss a number of priorities and recommendations compiled in the report from previous two workshops and adding to previous work aimed at ensuring that services supporting research data are effectively providing a technical ecosystem for FAIR data. This workshop is aligned with two of the conference’s main topics and it will resonate with its broader expert audience. It will tackle one of the challenges it raises, namely the lack of embedded tools and services supporting Open Science.

This workshop will explore situations where success has been achieved and consider whether this success can be extended to other domains. This work will feed into recommendations being developed by the FAIRsFAIR project to help improve FAIR policy and practice.

WHEN 17th September, 14:00
The workshop will look at the current practices around publishing training resources, events and tools, and focus on the metadata and features for reuse. The wide plethora of training resources (MOOCs, tutorials, guides) can be found in repositories, websites, GitHub, and may be in domain-specific central catalogues. Nevertheless training coordinators feel the need to look over the fence of their own organisation or project and are looking for resources that are already there, or events that their audience might be interested in.
The output of the workshop will be a set of recommendations from the training community including concrete steps we can take to improve the findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability of the EOSC training resources.

The workshop will consist of a mix of case study presentations and group discussions focussing on the need for professionalising data stewardship roles and how to go from theory and policy to practice and implementation. The participants will be actively engaged in the discussion throughout the session, especially during the group discussions in the second half.

This workshop will explore the identifier landscape. It is hoped that afterwards, participants will engage others to use and benefit from persistent identifiers (PIDs). Persistent identifiers are at the heart of the FAIR principles and are becoming increasingly important in all research workflows.
