WP2 will look at technologies that support semantic interoperability in a sustainable way and develop practices that support FAIRness.

Key Tasks

  • Create the basis for continued work on sustainable technical implementation of the FAIR principles on a broad level and improve the understanding of the current variety in FAIR data standard
  • Improve the semantic interoperability of research resources by specifying FAIR metadata schemas, vocabularies, protocols, and ontologies
  • Provide solutions for interoperability requirements and machine accessibility for FAIR-aligned repositories
  • Define the extent to which the FAIR concept can be applied to data services (including software)

WP2 works in close cooperation with other FAIRsFAIR work packages, Research Data Alliance (RDA), European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) projects and other stakeholders to improve understanding of the current variety in FAIR data standards and develop practices that support the uptake of FAIR technologies and semantic interoperability.

WP2 will organise workshops and hackathons to bring together stakeholders to produce recommendations to support FAIR Semantics and Semantics in FAIR. With an open call, this WP will invite repositories to develop FAIR functionalities (FAIR Data Point) and both implement and develop guidelines for services, including software.

In the course of 2019 a first of three reports on FAIR requirements for persistence and interoperability will be written. This will be done in cooperation with other ongoing landscaping efforts. Other outcomes during FAIRsFAIR project will be guidelines for good practices for ontology design and vocabulary interoperability and a report on a basic framework of FAIRness of services.

WP2 will thus produce both analyses and reports on FAIR practices, as well as guidelines and an implemented prototype for a technical solution for repositories.
