From 16 to 18 September 2019 the Open Science Fair in Porto will critically showcase the elements required for the transition to Open Science: e-infrastructures and services, policies as guidance for good practices, research flows and new types of activities (disseminate, mine, review, assess, etc.), the roles of the respective actors and their networks.
FAIRsFAIR will actively contribute to the discussion there with five workshops co-organised by FAIRsFAIR consortium partners. First on the programme, one of a series of workshops co-organised together with OpenAIRE, EOSC-Hub and FREYA with the aim of exploring how existing infrastructures can work together, and formulating priorities and recommendations to EOSC which ensure services supporting research data are effectively providing a technical ecosystem for FAIR data. A second workshop will explore some success stories of FAIR data generation and consider how to extend this to other domains. A third workshop will look at the current practices around publishing training resources, events and tools, and focus on the metadata and features for reuse. A further workshop will consider the need for professionalising data stewardship roles and how to go from theory and policy to practice and implementation.The last workshop is dedicated to persistent identifiers. These are at the heart of the FAIR principles and are becoming increasingly important in all research workflows.
At the Open Science Fair, FAIRsFAIR will also see its first General Assembly meeting together with the meetings of some others FAIRsFAIR advisory bodies.

In the larger context of Open Science, the workshop will present and discuss a number of priorities and recommendations compiled in the report from previous two workshops and adding to previous work aimed at ensuring that services supporting research data are effectively providing a technical ecosystem for FAIR data. This workshop is aligned with two of the conference’s main topics and it will resonate with its broader expert audience. It will tackle one of the challenges it raises, namely the lack of embedded tools and services supporting Open Science.

WHEN 17th September, 14:00
The workshop will look at the current practices around publishing training resources, events and tools, and focus on the metadata and features for reuse. The wide plethora of training resources (MOOCs, tutorials, guides) can be found in repositories, websites, GitHub, and may be in domain-specific central catalogues. Nevertheless training coordinators feel the need to look over the fence of their own organisation or project and are looking for resources that are already there, or events that their audience might be interested in.
The output of the workshop will be a set of recommendations from the training community including concrete steps we can take to improve the findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability of the EOSC training resources.

The workshop will consist of a mix of case study presentations and group discussions focussing on the need for professionalising data stewardship roles and how to go from theory and policy to practice and implementation. The participants will be actively engaged in the discussion throughout the session, especially during the group discussions in the second half.
