Representatives from ten data repositories received the first of two rounds of training in CoreTrustSeal certification at DANS in The Hague last week.

Selected by a FAIRsFAIR expert committee from a field of 80 respondents to an Open Call  issued in August 2019, the repositories had been assessed in terms of their focus on long-term data preservation and reuse as well as on the feasibility of their obtaining CoreTrustSeal certification within the given time frame. A diverse geographical and disciplinary spread was also ensured.

The agenda for the full-day programme of formal presentations and practical working sessions included comprehensive coverage of the CoreTrustSeal certification requirements, FAIR, and maturity modelling as well as stakeholder mind mapping and roadmapping. Says Frans Huigen of DANS, “The workshop was lively, and an invaluable learning experience both for the participants and for the trainers, particularly in terms of understanding the practical challenges faced by the candidate repositories.”

The repositories are expected to have obtained the CoreTrustSeal certification status by October 2021. In the intervening period they will receive ongoing support from the FAIRsFAIR project and their experience of integrating FAIR data principles and the requirements for certification will be shared with the community in future articles here on the FAIRsFAIR website. Watch this space for updates!
